Recall of Sweet 2 Eat Fruit for Listeria Spreads to Canada

The recall of Sweet 2 Eat brand fresh whole peaches, plums, nectarines, and pluots for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination has spread to Canada. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Wawona Packing Company of California are recalling the fruits as of July 21, 2014.

Sweet2Eat Listeria Recalled Fruit CanadaYou can see the very long list of recalled products, along with their pack dates and UPC numbers, at the CFIA web site. They include white peaches, organic yellow peaches, organic black plums, organic yellow nectarines, yellow nectarines, whit nectarines, black plums, pluots, and organic red plums. You can also see pictures of the recalled products at the CFIA web site.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Discard in a closed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. After handling the fruits, wash your hands with soap and warm water. Then clean out your kitchen and disinfect anything that came into contact with the fruits, including your fridge, with a mild bleach solution. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of these recalled items, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. If you do become ill, see your doctor immediately and tell him you ate this recalled fruit. So far, no illnesses have been reported to public health officials, but it can take weeks to diagnose and report these illnesses.

Don’t panic; just keep an eye on yourself for the next 70 days. If you do experience flu-like symptoms, see your doctor and tell him you ate fruit that was recalled for Listeria. There are treatments for listeriosis.

  2. Just concerned.. My 7 year old and mother in law has been eating these for 3 days now. So far no concerns, but need to know what to look out for.

Watch out for flu-like symptoms, including fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, and stiff neck. Unfortunately you have to watch for the next 70 days, because that’s how long it can take for the symptoms appear. If they do appear, see your doctor.

I saw the PLU on Orchard Perfect nectarines #4378. This is also a Wawanona company and that PLU# was recalled in the states. I bought them at a small store on Eglinton Av., W . Are mine safe? I believe the importer of Wawanona into Canada should make a statement.

Call the store and ask if they received the recalled products. There is also a recall of the fruits in Canada that was just reported today.

  4. HI, THANKS for this , I bought and just returned them.
    Much appreciated folks.
