Shredded Cheese Recalled in Canada for Possible Listeria

In Canada, Castle Cheese Inc. is recalling some of their shredded cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in association with the consumption of these products.

Recall SignageThe recalled cheeses include Packed for Sun Valley Fresh Foods Shredded Dairy Product made with Parmesan in 80 gram containers. There is no UPC code, and the code on the product is “Before 15JA28”, sold in British Columbia. Also recalled is Castle Brand Shredded Dairy Product made with Cheddar Cheese in 2.27 kg packages. The UPC number isĀ 87454900060012 and the code is “Best Before 14JL28”. The last product was sold at The Grocery People on 945 Laval in Kamloops, BC.

If you purchased either of these products, do not eat them. Return them to the place of purchase for a refund. If you ate these products, monitor yourself for listeriosis, the disease caused by the Listeria bacteria, for the next 70 days. Symptoms include fever, nausea, vomiting, severe headache, muscle aches, and flu-like symptoms.
