Caesar salads sold at Trader Joe’s are being recalled for undeclared wheat, soy, egg and fish. The salads, made by H Group, Inc. of Framingham, MA, were sold in the refrigerated sections of stores in DE, MD, NJ, NY, VA, PA and Washington DC under the brand name Trader Giotto’s Caesar Salad with Caesar Dressing. People with allergies to those ingredients should not eat the salads as they run the risk of serious or life-threatening reaction if they do.
At the time of the recall, issued voluntarily by H Group, no illnesses had been reported. The company is recalling 509 units of the salad with SKU 05161 and the following date codes: “Sell By 04/6/14, 04/7/14 and 04/8/14.”
The recalled product was packaged in an 8.5 oz. clear plastic clamshell containers. The “Sell By” date is printed on the front of the package in the left hand corner. No other products are affected by the recall.
The problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in H Group’s packaging processes. The issue has been corrected, according to the company.
