Chicken Sausages Recalled for Foreign Materials

Kayem Foods of Massachusetts is recalling 59,203 pounds of fully cooked chicken sausage products because they may be contaminated with foreign material, or pieces of plastic. No injuries have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.

The recalled products are 12-ounce packages of Trader Joe’s brand “Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage”. The case code is 9605 and use by/freeze by dates of “4 22 15”, “4 25 15” and “4 29 15”. Also recalled are 8 ounce packages of al fresco brand “Apple Maple Fully Cooked Breakfast Chicken Sausage”. The case code on that product is 9709 and use by/freeze by dates are “JUN 13 2015” and “JUN 20 2015”. These products have the establishment number “P7839” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations nationwide, and were made on various dates in March 2015.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Discard or return to the place of purchase for a refund. The recall was initiated after complaints from two consumers who found small pieces of plastic in the products.
