Jack and the Beanstalk Soybean Sprouts Recalled for Listeria

Hanbit Enterprises, doing business as Jack and the Beanstalk is recalling soybean sprouts because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but Listeria infections can take up to 70 days to appear.

They include 1 pound soybean sprouts with bar code 7-27580-12366-9, 1.5 pound soybean sprouts with bar code 7-27580-12365-2, 10 pound soybean sprouts with bar code 7-27580-12351-5, and NATTO soybean sprouts with bar code 7-27580-12367-6. An FDA sampling program revealed that the finished product contained Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Then wash your hands and clean out the refrigerator with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. They include fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild illness, but listeriosis can cause infection in the newborn baby, miscarriage, and stillbirth.
