Smoked Salmon Recall for Listeria Updated

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is updating information about the recall of Refrigerated Candy Smoked Salmon for Listeria monocytogenes. The original recall was issued on February 21, 2015.

Candy Smoked Salmon Listeria RecallSalish Seafoods brand Candy Smoked Salmon is being recalled for possible Listeria contamination. It was sold in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan and may have been sold in other provinces.  Some packages may not have the same brand, product name, or lot code as the described product. Ask your retailer if you aren’t sure whether or not you bought this product.

The recalled product is Salish Seafoods Candy Smoked Salmon in variable sizes. Some may have been served from deli counters with or without a label or coding. The codes on some of the products are Lot # 6919, Lot # 6920, Lot # 6932 and Lot # 6949. There was no UPC number.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands after handling the product, then clean out your fridge with a mild bleach solution since these bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of this product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days, because that is how long it can take for symptoms to appear after exposure. No illnesses have been reported to date. The symptoms include vomiting, nausea, fever, muscle aches, headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriage and stillbirth if they contract listeriosis, even though their symptoms are very mild. If you do get ill, see your doctor immediately.
