Blount Fine Foods, Corp. has announced a recall of more than 8,600 pounds of its “Beef Chile Colorado” frozen meals because of erroneous labelling. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the company’s packages labeled as “Beef Chile Colorado” actually contain cheese enchiladas containing milk – a dangerous allergen for those who are susceptible to it. Blount Fine Foods is headquartered in McKinney, Texas.
The recall affects “Beef Chile Colorado” frozen meals that were produced on Nov. 23, 2016. Blount Fine Foods shipped them to distribution centers located in Texas and Pennsylvania. The products were packaged in 10-ounce retail cartons labeled as “SAFFRON ROAD BEEF CHILE COLORADO WITH MESQSUITE BLACK BEANS & GARLIC RICE” and stamped with a “Best By” date of “05/23/18 AP.” They do not bear an establishment number.
This is a Class I, “High Risk” recall, meaning that people who are sensitive to the milk allergen may experience severe health reactions or death if they consume the product. Those who have bought the frozen meals should throw them away or return them to their place of purchase.
