German Sausage Haus Recalls Meats for Possible Staph

German Sausage Haus of Washington is recalling about 1252 pounds of meat products for possible staphylococcus enterotoxin contamination. There may have been a processing deviation that led to this problem.

The enterotoxins are heat resistant, so even if you heat these foods to a normally safe internal temperature they can still make you sick. There is no word on whether or not any illnesses have been reported in connection with this issue.

You can see the long list of recalled products, along with sizes, package codes, and package dates at the USDA site. They are all German Sausage Haus brand, and include Danube Smoked Sausages, Smoked Bacon, Devil Dog Smoked Sausages, Christmas Smoked Sausages, Smoked Fat, and Smoked Pork Loin, among others. All were produced and packaged on dates ranging from June 14 to September 8, 2017. They have the establishment number “Est. 45952” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The meats were shipped to retail locations and institutions in Washington state.

If you bought any of these products, do not eat them, since heating won’t make them safe. Throw them away in a sealed container or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
