Gourmet Classic Salads Recalled for Possible Listeria

Gourmet Classic Salads of Florida is recalling about 3,236 pounds of ready to eat meat and poultry products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. FDA notified the USDA that the firm may have produced USDA-regulated products on dates that FDA food contact samples tested positive for Listeria bacteria. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions received to date.

The recalled products are clear plastic containers containing Turkey Pesto on Tomato Basil Wrap, Steak Fajita on White Wrap, Chicken Pepper Jack Wrap, Chicken Caesar Salad, Chef Salad, Cobb Salad, Chicken Caesar on Spinach Wrap, Chicken Salad Snacker, Cranberry Pecan Chicken Salad Snacker, Chicken Salad Cup, Pepperoni & Cheese snack box, and Turkey & Havarti Lettuce Wrap. Also recalled are round black plastic bowls containing Breakfast Bowl: Italian Sausage, Egg, Cheese & Potato, Southwest Breakfast Bowl, Chicken Tender Bowl, and Ziti with Sausage & Cheese. The products have the establishment number “EST. 19276” or “P-19276” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to a distributor in Florida for further distribution.

If you bought any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or doubled bagged package so other people and animals can’t eat them, or return them to the store where you bought them for a refund. Then clean out your fridge with a mild bleach solution to kill any Listeria bacteria.

If you ate these recalled products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms may be flu-like, or they could include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women need to be very careful about this bacteria, since listeriosis can cause miscarriage, premature labor, and stillbirth even if the woman only has a mild illness. If you do get sick, see your doctor and tell her you ate these recalled products.
