Also recalled is Spicy Guacamole in 9 ounce containers, with UPC number 0 78732 00426 9 and lot numbers 276, 277, 278, 284, 285, 289, 291, 296, 310, 313, and 318. Finally, Real Guacamole in 9 ounce containers with UPC number 78732 00431-3  and lot numbers 275, 276, 285, 289, and 313 is recalled. These products were distributed in California, Nevada, and Hawaii at the retail level.

Some of these products are beyond the expiration date and aren’t available for sale any longer. FDA testing on two samples of these products found Listeria monocytogenes bacteria, prompting this recall.

If you bought these products, do not eat them. Discard them in a sealed container in a secure garbage receptacle, or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Then clean your refrigerator with a solution of liquid chlorine bleach and warm water to kill any bacteria. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and may contaminate the appliance or other foods. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling these products.

If you ate these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. You may experience high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only be mildly ill with flu symptoms, but this illness can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature labor. If you do get sick, call your doctor.
