Botulism is a toxin produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. It grows in anaerobic conditions and can contaminate improperly eviscerated fish products and low acid canned foods. The symptoms of botulism food poisoning include difficulty swallowing, fixed pupils, drooping eyelids, blurred or double vision, facial paralysis, and a change in the sound of the voice. Eventually the paralysis goes down the body and the person dies.
There is a treatment for botulism food poisoning, but it can only be applied by a doctor in a hospital. Early treatment is best.
