Callie’s Charleston Biscuits is recalling their Country Ham biscuits and Cocktail Ham Biscuits for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. these products were made with Johnston County Ham that was recalled after a deadly Listeria outbreak was uncovered.
The recalled products are Callie’s Charleston Biscuits – Country Ham Biscuits, with UPC number 897856002001m, and Callie’s Charleston Biscuits – Cocktail Ham Biscuits, with UPC number 897856002049. No illnesses have been reported as of October 4, 2018, in connection with these products. The products were produced and shipped between April 3, 2017 and October 3, 2018 and were distributed nationwide.
If you bought either of these products, don’t eat them, even if you plan to reheat them first. Discard them or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund. Some of these products may be frozen in consumers’ home freezers.
After you discard these products, clean your freezer or refrigerator with a mild bleach solution. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at temperatures below 40°F. Freezing doesn’t kill this pathogen. Wash your hands well with soap and water after touching these product packages and after cleaning.
The symptoms of listeriosis include high fever, severe headache, nausea, diarrhea, and neck stiffness and aches. Pregnant women may suffer stillbirth or miscarriage if they contract this infection. But those symptoms may be very mild, or similar to the flu.
If you ate these products, you need to watch yourself for these symptoms for the next 70 days. That’s how long it can take for symptoms to develop. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
