Sirob Imports, Inc of Lindenhurst, NY is recalling Corrado, Orlando Imports, Nouri’s Syrian Bakery, Mediterranean Specialty Foods Brand and Butera Fruit Market Curry Powder because it contains elevated levels of lead. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Lead can cause lead poisoning in the short term and long term. Short term lead poisoning symptom include abdominal pain, weakness, vomiting, lethargy, and behavior changes. Long term, lead poisoning can cause learning disabilities, developmental delays, and low IQ.
The recalled product was sold in Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. The curry powder was packaged in 8 ounce and 16 ounce plastic containers. Corrado curry powder has the UPC number 0 12729 01100 7 for the 16 ounce size and 12729 01102 1 for the 7 ounce size. Orlando Imports curry powder was sold in 16 ounce containers and has the UPC number 0 53760 45255 8. Nouri’s Syrian Bakery curry powder has the UPC number 0 12729 01102 1 for the 8 ounce size, and 0 1279 0110 7 for the 16 ounce size. Mediterranean Specialty Foods powder was sold in 8 ounce packages, with UPC number 0 12729 01102 1. And Butera Fruit Market was sold in 8 ounce containers, with UPC number 0 12729 45273 2.
These products have the lot numbers GER302181, GER405081, GER403281, GER306181, GER104281, GER209081, GER301281, GER403281, GER505181, GER406181, GER504181, GER108081, GER106281, GER205181, GER309281, GER503281, GER306181, GER503081, and GER302181.
FDA sampling found elevated levels of lead in the product. The sampling was done because a consumer complained about elevated blood levels in child. That illness has not been definitively linked to this product, but the government is investigating.
If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed package, or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
