The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is updating its recall for cooked roast beef recall for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination that was issued on March 28, 2018 to include additional product information. In March, seasoned cooked roast beef was recalled that was sold at Druxy’s Famous Deli restaurants.
Illnesses were reported in that older recall notice that may be associated with that product. There are no reported illnesses associated with the product in this new warning.
This recall is for Deli Classic brand Seasoned Cooked Roast Beef Round produced by Erie Meat Producers. The product was sold in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador, and may have been sold in other provinces or territories. Unfortunately, the product may have been sold without a label or coding, or may have been sold under a different brand name.
The recalled product is Deli Classic Seasoned Cooked Roast Beef Round in variable sized packages. There is no UPC number on the product. The codes on the product are Best Before 2018AL10 and 2018AL17.
The recall was triggered by the CFIA investigation into an outbreak. Check to see if you have this recalled product in your home. If you aren’t sure if you purchased this particular product, contact the retailer who sold it to you.
If you do have it, throw it away in a sealed or double bagged package. You can also return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund. Clean our your fridge with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at temperatures below 40°F.
If you ate this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms can include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women need to be especially cautious about this illness, since Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning can cause miscarriage, premature labor, and stillbirth. If you do feel sick, see your doctor and tell her you ate this recalled food.
