This is another secondary recall due to the recall of McCain Foods vegetables for possible bacterial contamination. To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with these products.
The recalled product is Fit & Active Southwest Veggie Stuffed Sandwiches. The UPC number on the product is 0 4149815117 1, and the best by dates are FEB 09 2019 and FEB 14 2019. The Julian codes are 20027230003106:15 BEST BY FEB 09 2019 and 20027235003115:13 BEST BY FEB 14 2019.
The sandwiches were sold between 08/22/2017 through 09/20/2017 to Aldi stores in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, and West Virginia. They may also have been available to Aldi customers in the Atlanta area through Instacart.
This product is not ready-to-eat and has baking instructions. But there is a risk of illness if the product is mishandled before it is consumed. If you bought this product, don’t eat it. Throw it away in a sealed garbage can or take it back to the place of purchase.
It’s a good idea to then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning.
If you ate this sandwich, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.
