Harvest Creek Chicken Nuggets Recalled for Salmonella in Canada; Illnesses Reported

Harvest Creek brand Chicken Nuggets are being recalled in Canada for possible Salmonella contamination. There are illnesses associated with this product; the Public Health Agency is investigating. The product is made by Erie Meat Products Ltd.

The nuggets were distributed in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec, and may have been distributed nationally. The recalled product is Harvest Creek Chicken Nuggets – Uncooked Breaded Cutlettes in 2 x 1 kg packages. The code on the product is BB\MA 18-OC-11 and the UPC number is 8 29810 93350 2.

Check to see if you have this product in your home. If you do, discard it in a sealed or double wrapped packages and put it into a secure, closed garbage can so other people and animals can’t access it. You can also return it to the store where you bought it for a full refund.

Clean out your freezer or refrigerator or wherever you stored the nuggets with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Wash your hands thoroughly with water and soap after handling this product.

The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, abdominal cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea that may be bloody. Food contaminated with this bacteria will not look, smell, or taste spoiled and the texture of the product will not change.

Salmonella can be a serious or even deadly illness, especially for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses or compromised immune systems. If you have eaten this product and have been sick, see your doctor.
