Hempler Foods of Washington is recalling about 4,068 pounds of pepperoni sticks that may be contaminated with extraneous material or foreign materials, more specifically metal pieces. This poses a choking hazard and could cause a mouth injury. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date in connection with this issue.
These products were produced on October 10, 2017. The recalled product is 2.25 pound vacuum-packed packages containing “Hempler’s Family Classic Pepperoni Natural Smoke Flavoring Added,” with a “packed on” date of 10/10/2017 and a case code of 59716. The product has the establishment number “EST. 6410” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The recalled product was shipped to institutions for their use and to retail distributors in eastern Washington state.
The firm notified FSIS about this issue after receiving three consumer complaints. The consumers reported finding small metal pieces in the pepperoni products. Anyone who is concerned about an injury or illness should consult a healthcare provider.
If you bought this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged package in a secure garbage can so other people or animals can’t get at it. You can also return this product to the store where you bought it for a full refund.
FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to verify that recalling firms are notifying their customers, and to make sure that steps are taken so the product is no longer available in the retail market. The retail distribution list or lists will be posted on the FSIS website when they are available.
