King Arthur Organic Coconut Flour Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

King Arthur Flour Company is voluntarily recalling 6,300 cases of their Organic Coconut Flour because Salmonella bacteria was found in one 16 ounce porch of the product. No reports of illnesses have been associated with this recalled product.

There is an ongoing Salmonella outbreak that is linked to dried coconut in the U.S. We don’t know if the coconut involved in that recall was used in the production of this product.

The recalled product is Organic Coconut Flour in 16 ounce pouches. It has Best if Used By Dates of 10/25/2018 with lot number CF22017E, and 12/04/2018 with lot number CF22017E. These dates and lot numbers can be found on the back of the pouch, near the bottom of the panel. The product’s UPC number is 0 71012 10702 5. Other Best if Used by Dates and lot numbers are not affected by this recall.

The company is investigating the issue to try to find the source of the problem in the supply chain. If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if you are planning to cook or bake with it. Discard it in a sealed package in a secure garbage can, or take the flour back to the store where you bought it for a full refund.

Salmonela infections cause symptoms that include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, a fever, and diarrhea that may be bloody. These symptoms usually appear 12 to 72 hours after exposure to the bacteria. Most people recover on their own, but some can get sick sick, with sepsis or dehydration, that they need to be hospitalized. If you ate this product and have been experiencing those symptoms, see your doctor.
