OC Raw Dog Food Recalls Two Products; One for Listeria Monocytogenes, Another for Clostridium Botulinum

OC Raw Dog Food or Rancho Santa Margarita, California, is recalling several products. One recall is for possible Clostridium botulinum contamination; the other is for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with either recall.

The first recall is for OC Raw Dog Food Freeze Dried Sardines. These sardines are larger than 5 inches long. that is a risk factor for botulism poisoning, since the FDA has found that salt-cured, dried, or fermented un-eviserated fish have been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning.

Dogs can get sick if they eat this product, and people who handle it can also get sick. The Freeze Dried Sardines are packaged in a 3.2 ounce bag with UPC number 095225853043. It was sold in independent pet specialty stores in California, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, Texas, and Pennsylvania.

OC Rw was notified by the Minnesota Department of Food and Agriculture after a sample of the product was collected and found to contain intact un-guted fish that measure 6-1/2″. The product has not tested positive for Clostridium botulinum.

The second recall is for one lot of OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. OC Raw was notified of the possible contamination when the New Jersey Department of Food and Agriculture found a positive test.

These products were sold in California, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. All of these products have lot number 3652 and a use by date of 10/11/18.

Four products are recalled. The first is OC Raw Chicken, Fish & Produce Meaty Rox in 3 pound containers. The UPC number is 022099069171. The second product is OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Doggie Sliders in 4 pound packages, with UPC number 095225852640. OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Doggie Dozen Patty Bag is also recalled, sold in 6.5 pound packages, with UPC number 022099069225. Finally, OC Raw Dog Chicken, Fish & Produce Meaty Fox in 7 pound packages is recalled. The UPC number on that product is 095225852756.

There is a risk that dogs that eat this food can get sick and can pass the illness on to people. Humans are also sick, because they can contract the bacteria by touching their pets, or by handling the food.

If you bought any of these products, do not give them to your pet. Discard them in a sealed bag, or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund.
