Lipari Foods is voluntarily recalling Premo Brand and Fresh Grab turkey and Swiss submarine sandwiches produced and packaged by JLM because of potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall issue.
These sandwiches were produced on July 17, 2018 and distributed to food service and retail stores in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and West Virginia. They include Premo Brand Turkey & Swiss Sub in 4/6 ounce packages, with UPC number 612510001042. The Lipari product number is 915537, the sell by date is 08/06/2018 and the lot number is 17201807. Also recalled is Fresh Grab Turkey & Swiss Sub in 18/6 ounce packages, with UPC number 612510001042. The Lipari product number on that product is 251694, the sell by date is 08/06/2018, and the lot number is 17201807.
JLM notified the company that routine environmental monitoring and product testing returned positive results for the pathogenic bacteria. Lipari Foods started shipping the sandwiches on July 19, 2018.
If you purchased these sandwiches, do not eat them. Wrap them securely and discard them in a secure garbage can, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a refund.
Then clean out your refrigerator or freezer or wherever you stored the sandwiches with a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of warm water. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Freezing doesn’t kill this pathogen. Wash your hands with water and soap after cleaning and after handling this product.
If you ate these sandwiches, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, muscle aches, nausea, pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women need to be careful of this pathogen, since it can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
