If you purchased these products, do not eat them. The products may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which produce the deadly toxin. You cannot see, smell, or taste this toxin, and it does not change the appearance or texture of the food. Throw these products away in a sealed or double bagged container in a secure garbage can. You can also return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
The symptoms of botulism food poisoning include facial paralysis, loss of facial expression, unreactive or fixed pupils, difficulty swallowing, drooping eyelids, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking, slurred speech, and a change in the sound of the voice, including hoarseness. Eventually, the paralysis this toxin causes progresses downward through the body, affecting the breathing muscles. A tiny amount of this toxin can paralyze and kill an adult human.
The recall was triggered by CFIA inspection activities. This may lead to the recall of other products. The CFIA will notify this public if this happens.
