Tenth Recall for Botulism Issued for Imperial Caviar and VIP Caviar Roe in Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued its ninth update for the recall of Imperial Caviar & Seafood and VIP Caviar Club brand roe for possible botulism contamination. The first recall was posted on November 25, 2017.

More products are now recalled. They include VIP Caviar Club Salmon Roe in 50 gram packages with UPC number 1 86866 90024 8; VIP Caviar Club Salmon Roe in 100 gram packages with UPC number 1 86866 90023 1, Imperial Caviar & Seafood Salmon Roe in 50 gram packages with UPC number 1 86866 90024 8; Imperial Caviar & Seafood Salmon Roe in 100 gram packages with UPC number 1 86866 90023 1; and Outer package: Imperial Caviar & Seafood/Inner package: VIP Caviar Club Salmon Roe in 50 gram packages, with outer package UPC number 1 86866 00010 8. All best before dates up to and including December 13, 2018 are recalled in this group.

Also recalled is Imperial Caviar & Seafood Whitefish Roe in 50 gram packages, with UPC number 1 86866 90027 9; and Outer package: Imperial Caviar & Seafood/Inner package VIP Caviar Club Golden Whitefish Roe (outer package) and Whitefish Roe (inner package) in 50 gram containers. The UPC number on that outer package is 1 86866 00012 2. All best before dates up to and including December 15, 2018 are included in that recall.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or double bagged package, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.

The symptoms of botulism food poisoning include facial paralysis, drooping eyelids, difficulty swallowing, fixed pupils, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking, and slurred speech. If you have been experiencing any of these symptoms, see your doctor immediately.
