The food recall that was issued on May 14, 2018 by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has been updated to include another product. Now, Whole Foods Market is recalling Reblochon Cheese “raw cow cheese” that was sold from four stores in Ontario for possible E. coli O26 contamination. There are no illnesses in Canada that are associated with this product, but there is an E. coli O26 outbreak in France that is linked to this cheese.
The cheese is Whole Foods Market Reblochon Cheese “raw cow cheese” sold in variable size packages. All “Packed On” dates from March 20, 2018 up to and including May 15, 2018 are included in this recall. The UPC number on the product starts with 0293524. The cheese was sold from these Whole Foods Market locations in Canada: 4771 Yonge Street in North York; 301 Cornwall Road in Oakville; 951 Bank Street in Ottawa; and 87 Avenue Road in Toronto.
If you purchased this product, do not eat it, even if you are planning to cook with it. Discard it in a sealed package and put it into a secure garbage can, or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this cheese.
It’s also a good idea to clean your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution after discarding this cheese. Clean the fridge and wipe down packages with that solution, then clean with clear water.
The symptoms of an E. coli O26 infection include severe and painful abdominal and stomach cramps, and bloody or watery diarrhea. If you ate this cheese and have been ill, see your doctor.
