Aldi and Raley’s Family Recalls Frozen Berries For Hepatitis A

Wawona Frozen Foods is recalling packages of frozen berries, including frozen raspberries and frozen berry mixes containing raspberries, that were sold at Aldi and Raley’s Family of Fine Stores because they may be contaminated with hepatitis A. This recall is being issued out of an abundance of caution because of a positive test results taken as part of a new government sampling program in the wake of hepatitis A outbreaks linked to those products.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these recalled items. Hepatitis sA is a contagious virus that can cause liver diseases. Symptoms of this illness usually start 15 to 50 days after exposure. Symptoms of hepatitis A infection include fever, headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, jaundice (yellowing of the sin and eyes), dark urine, or pale clay-colored stool.

The berries were packaged in these sizes with these UPC numbers and “best by dates:

  • Season’s Choice Raspberries (frozen): 12 ounce bags, “best by” date of June, 10, 2021, August 1,2021 and August 23, 2021. “Product of Chile.” UPC Code: 0 41498 12419 9 o Season’s Choice Berry Medley (frozen) containing raspberries: 16 ounce bags, “best by” date of July 17, 2021, July 20, 2021 and July 22, 2021. “Product of USA, Chile.” UPC Code: 0 41498 31344 9 Raley’s:
  • Raley’s Fresh Frozen Red Raspberries: 12 ounce bags, “best by” date of June 5, 2021 (lot code:20156A04), August 1, 2021 (lot code: 20213A06) “Product of Chile.” UPC Code: 46567 00754

These berry mixes and frozen raspberries were sold throughout stores in the Aldi and Raley’s Family of Fine store chains. The raspberries were imported from Chile. Wawona Frozen Foods is cooperating with federal health officials to make sure all of these products are no longer available to consumers.

If you purchased those berry products, do not eat them, even if you plan to cook with them. Throw them away in a sealed package in a secure garbage can, or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
