Compliments Kale and Vegetables and Manns Veggies Recalled For Possible Listeria

Sobeys in Canada is recalling Compliments Sweet Kale Blend and vegetables for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The first recall was issued on October 30, 2019, the first update was issued on November 1, 2019, and the second update was issued on November 3, 2019, to include Mann’s Vegetables. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these recalled products.

The first recall was for Compliments Sweet Kale Blend, sold in 255 gram packages. It has UPC number 0 68820 13305 6, and codes of BEST BEFORE 19 OC 28, 19 OC 31, 19 NO 01, 19 NO 02, and 19 NO 03.

The second recall was for Compliments fresh-cut vegetable product, and included Vegetable Platter with a Ranch Dip, Broccolini, Cauliettes – Chopped Cauliflower, Power Green Blend, and Green Beans. You can see the package sizes, UPC numbers, and codes at the CFIA web site.

And the last update, issued on November 3, 2019, was for Mann Packing products, including Broccoli Cole Slaw, Kale Beet Blend, Power Blend, Rainbow Salad, Riced Cauliflower, Veggie Tray, Sweet Corn, Green Beans, and Spicy Marinara, among others. You can see the long list of recalled products at the CFIA web site. There is a recall of Mann Packing vegetables in the United States for this issue.

If you did purchase any of these products, do not eat them, even if you plan to cook them first. Throw them away in a secure garbage can, or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after touching these products.

You should then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at those cold temps and freezing doesn’t kill it. Use a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of warm water.

If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for teh symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days; that’s how long it can take for them to appear because of a long incubation time period. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have what seems like a mild case of the flu, but this infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
