Home Market Foods of Norwood, Massachusetts, is recalling about 53,217 pounds of frozen ready-to-eat Cooked Perfect Meatballs beef and pork products because they contain milk and wheat, two of the eight major food allergens, that are not declared on the product label.That means that this product is misbranded.
Anyone who is allergic to milk or wheat, or who has celiac disease or is lactose intolerant, may have a serious reaction if they eat this product. No reports of illnesses or allergic reactions have been received to date.
The frozen ready-to-eat beef and pork meatballs are labeled as “Homestyle Meatballs All Natural,” but may actually contain “Cranberry Stuffed Meatballs.” These items were produced on April 2, 2o19. The recalled product is: 48-ounce plastic bag packages of “COOKED PERFECT BRAND HOMESTYLE MEATBALLS All Natural” marked with Best If Used By 07/02/20.
This product has the establishment number “EST. 2727” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The meatballs were shipped to retail locations in Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, and Rhode Island. The problem was discovered when the firm received a consumer complaint that the product was incorrectly labeled.
If you purchased this product, and can’t eat milk or wheat for whatever reason, don’t eat it. Throw the product away or take the product back to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
FSIS is making sure that the firm’s customers have been notified about this recall, and that the product is not available to consumers. If it becomes available, the retail distribution list for this product will be posted at the USDA website.
