Williams Foods LLC is recalling Great Value and HEB taco seasoning mix for possible Salmonella contamination. No consumer complaints or reported cases of salmonellosis have been received to date in connection with this recall.
The recalled products are Great Value Mild Taco Seasoning Mix sold in 1 ounce packages. The item number is 564829444, the UPC number on the product is 0 78742 24572 0, and the Best if used by dates are 07/08/21 and 07/09/21. Also recalled is HEB Taco Seasoning Mix Reduced Sodium in 1.25 ounce packages. The item number on that product is 050215, and the product UPC number is 0 41220 79609 0. There are three “Better by” dates on that product: 07/10/21, 07/11/21, and 07/15/21. You can see pictures of product labels at the FDA web site.
The best by information is found on the top part of the back side of the package. These taco seasoning mixes were sold in retail stores in Washington, D.C., Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
These items were made with cumin that is involved in a recall initiated by the company’s supplier, Mincing Spice Co. A sample from one specific lot was tested by one of Mincing Spice’s customers and found to be potentially contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. A portion of that lot was supplied to Williams Foods, LLC. The company is issuing this recall as a precaution.
If you purchased either of these taco seasoning mixes, do not use them, even if you are going to cook with them. Throw them away in a sealed container in a secure garbage can, or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
