Rastelli Brothers, doing business as Rastelli Foods Group of Swedesboro, New Jersey, is recalling about 130,464 pounds of Nature’s Rancher raw ground beef products because they may be contaminated with foreign materials, more specifically plastic. This poses a choking and mouth injury hazard. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.
The recalled raw ground beef items were produced from October 3, 2019 through October 15, 2019. These are the recalled products:
- 16 ounce vacuum sealed packages containing “NATURE’S RANCHER 100% GRASS FED ORGANIC GROUND BEEF 85% LEAN, 15% FAT” with case code 9276, 9283, 9287, or 9288 and use or freeze by dates of 10/24/19, 10/31/19, 11/04/19, 11/07/19, and 11/11/19.
- 16 ounce vacuum sealed packages containing “NATURE’S RANCHER 100% GRASS FED ORGANIC GROUND BEEF 93% LEAN, 7% FAT” with case code 9276, 9283, 9287, or 9288 and use or freeze by dates of 10/24/19, 10/31/19, 11/04/19, 11/07/19, and 11/11/19.
These items have the establishment number “EST. 7877-A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to distribution centers and retail locations in Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, and Maryland. The problem was discovered after FSIS received consumer complaints about the contamination through the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline. The firm also received a direct consumer complaint about this issue.
FSIS is concerned that some of this product could be frozen in consumers’ home freezers. Check your freezer carefully. If you did buy one of these products, throw it away or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
USDA is conducting retail effectiveness checks to make sure that the recalling firm is notifying its customers about this recall. They also want to make sure that the product is no longer available for consumers to purchase. If a retail distribution list is available, it will be posted on the USDA web site.
