OxyElite Pro Dietary Supplements Recall for Liver Damage Expands

The recall of OxyElite Pro dietary supplements by USPlabs has expanded. The products include Aegeline, a synthesized version of a natural extract from the Bael tree. This ingredient can cause hepatitis and serious liver damage or liver failure. One person has died after taking these supplements, and others have had liver failure and either received liver transplants or are waiting for them. The ill persons live mainly in Hawaii. OxyElite Pro Lawsuit Filed in Hawaii Seeks Compensation For Acute Hepatitis, Liver Disease

This week, a lawsuit was filed in Hawaii on behalf of a woman (the plaintiff) who used OxyElite Pro and subsequently suffered acute hepatitis and liver injury. The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff consumed OxyElite Pro for several months before she began experiencing symptoms of hepatitis infection in March 2013. These symptoms included abdominal pain, nausea, fatigue and muscle aches.  She went undiagnosed until August of 2013, when she was hospitalized at Hilo Medical Center and diagnosed with acute hepatitis. The lawsuit was filed against USPlabs, LLC, the corporation that manufactures OxyElite Pro, and GNC Holdings, Inc., a retailer and distributor of OxyElite Pro. OxyElite Pro Linked to Hepatitis Liver Damage in Hawaii, Lawyers Investigate

At least 24 cases of acute hepatitis in Hawaii have been linked to OxyElite Pro, a dietary supplement, according to a health advisory issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Eleven people diagnosed with acute hepatitis and liver damage in Hawaii have been hospitalized, Two of whom received liver transplants. One person has died.
