Raw Milk Recalled for E. coli Sold at 159 Stores in Northern California

Organic Pastures raw milk recalled for E.coli was sold at 159 stores in Northern California, according to a retail distribution list posted by the California Department of Public Health. The list includes co-ops and natural grocery stores including several locations of the Sprouts, Nugget and New Leaf chains. The recalled milk has been linked to an E. coli outbreak that has sickened six children with a unique strain of shiga toxin-producing E. coli O157. The illnesses occurred in January. The recalled product, Organic Pastures raw whole milk,  had "use by" dates of 1/23/16 (lot code 20160105-1) and 1/26/16 (lot code 20160106-2). Raw Milk Suspected in E. coli And Campylobacter Illnesses in Idaho

Raw milk from Natural Farm Fresh Dairy of Kuna, Idaho is the suspected as the source of four Campylobacter infections and four E. coli O157:H7 infections, Idaho health officials say. They are warning consumers who have raw milk from the dairy not to drink it. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare's Southwest and Central Districts are working on the outbreak investigation with the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. The dairy is fully cooperating with the investigation. Raw milk is a common source of food poisoning. In 2013, 85 percent of dairy outbreaks were attributed to unpasteurized milk products, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
