Tyson Recalls Pizza Toppings: Misbranding and Undeclared Allergen

Tyson Prepared Foods Inc, in South Hutchinson, Kansas, is recalling about 12,060 pounds of pizza topping product because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The packaging states the product is beef, but it contains pork. In addition, the pork products contain soy, one of the major allergens, not declared on the label.

Product details:

  • 10-pound cartons labeled as “Cooked Pizza Topping”
  • Each carton contains two, 5-pound packages
  • Packages labeled “ARREZZIO-COOKED BEEF PIZZA TOPPING MANZO COTTO PER PIZZA”
  • Products bear the establishment number “EST. 623” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the label.
  • Products were produced January 12, 2012
  • Sold to foodservice institutions nationwide via a distributor

The product is intended for use in restaurants and institutional food operations, not sold in retail grocery stores. The problem was reported by a product purchaser.
