FPL Food LLC of South Carolina is recalling about 5,820 pounds of ground beef chuck because it may contain small pieces of plastic. The problem was discovered after the company received three consumer complaints. There are no reports of injury at this time.
The ground beef is sold in 80 ounce (5 pound) chubs of “80% Lean 20% Fat All Natural Ground Beef Chuck”. The establishment number “EST 332B” and the sell by date of “03/27/2013” are inkjetted on each package. The beef was packaged on March 7, 2013, and were sold in retail stores in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
The pieces of plastic are believed to be from a blue plastic liner that covers source material used to make the final ground product. For questions and more information, contact FPL Food Customer Service at 706-922-3920.
Today I think I figured out why ground beef has so many problems. A pound I bought at Walmart from FPL in GA says it may contain meat from: Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Honduras or Uraguay ! This year we had to give up raising beef on a small farm in the US after 44 years! How is the meat sent from foreign countries? No wonder it gets salmonella ! There is no indication that this meat was previously frozen and thawed. To me Big Ag has failed. Thanks. CLK
