Goldenfeast Recalls Bird Food for Possible Salmonella

Goldenfeast is recalling several exotic bird food blends because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. Parsley flakes supplied by Specialty Commodities tested positive for the bacteria. Other recalls may be announced, since the parsley was sold to other pet food manufacturers as well. No human or pet illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products.

The products include Australian Blend, Bean Supreme, Caribbean Bounty, Gardenflora, Petite Hookbill, Schmitts Original, Basics Plus Finch, and Basics Plus Parakeet. The food was distributed to retailers and distributors inĀ Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Idaho, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Virginia and Canada.

Salmonella can make the animals sick, and any human handling the contaminated product can also become sick. Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea that may be bloody, cramps, and fever. Salmonella infections can progress to arterial infections, arthritis, and urinary tract problems.

If you purchased any of these products call 1-800-344-6536 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm ET Monday through Friday for instruction on product return. No other Goldenfeast products are affected by this recall.
