Potential Listeria contamination in certain smoked salmon products sold at Sam’s Club stores nationwide has prompted the discount retailer to notify its customers of a recall. The products under recall were produced by Tampa Bay Fisheries Inc. of Dover Fl. and Multi-Export Foods. Inc of Miami.
The recall covers all smoked salmon products produced since November 14, 2012 and sold under the brand name Paramount Reserve at Sam’s Club stores in 42 states and Puero Rico. Specifically, smoked salmon “twin packs” (two 6 oz vacuum packages in a cardboard sleeve) with UPC number 6 88264 86705 and the following lot/sublot/batch numbers: 931-59733-2, 933-59753-1, 933-59754-2, 875-701413-1 and 890-701413-1. And 1.25 lb. packages of smoked salmon with the UPC number 6 88264 86664 and lot/sublot/batch numbers of: 870-701342-1, 873-701342-1, 870-701344-1, 873-701360-1, 870-701364-1, 873-701364-1, 900-701344-1, 873-701344-1, 873-701360-1, 886-701413-1, 900-701413-1, 873-701344-1 and 870-701360-1. Those numbers can be found on a white sticker located on the back of the package above the UPC bar code.
The product was sold in: Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Montana, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.
Consumers who have purchased this product should not eat it. Although no illness have been reported in conjunction with this recall, Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious or fatal illness. Symptoms of a Listeria infection can take as long as two months after ingestion to develop. They include fever, muscle aches, upset stomach, diarrhea, headache, stiff neck, confusion, or convulsions. In pregnant women, listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
This recall is one of several recent recalls for smoked fish including: a recall of smoked salmon products for potential Listeria contamination by Delfish SA. The recalled products were produced between September 5 2012 and October 17, 2012 with lot numbers ranging from 249 to 291. They include: 1 lb. packages of Black Bear of the Black Forest Smoked Salmon with the UPC # 810230000493; 1 lb. packages of Food Service Cold Smoked Salmon Trim; 4 oz packages of Einstein Darn Good smoked salmon with UPC # 099892315200; 3-5 lb food service packs of Food Service Whole Smoked Side; 2-3 lb. smoked fillets from Silver Source Smoked Salmon Foodservice, 6 oz packages of Royal Fjord Smoked Toppers with the UPC # 810230000561; 12-14 oz. packages of Royal Fjord Sliced Smoked Salmon Loin with item number 42925; and HEB 4 oz. packages of smoked salmon with UPC # 041220630417. The recalled products were distributed to retail stores in California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas Virginia and Puerto Rico. No illnesses have been reported.
Botulism risk prompted True Taste, LLC of Kenosha, Wis. to recall all of the hot smoked whitefish, trout, mackerel, salmon steak and cold smoked mackerel and whitefish it has produced during 2012. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.
Ocean Beauty Seafoods LLC recalled 371 cases of ready-to-eat cold smoked salmon products on December 14 because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products all had the pack code 285 and were sent to retailers and distribution centers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, and Washington from November 20, 2012 to December 12, 2012. The products under recall include 3 oz packages of Nathan’s Brand Cold Smoked Atlantic Salmon (Product of Chile) with UPC 0 73030 80368 2 and 4 oz packages of LASCCO Cold Smoked Nova Atlantic Salmon (Product of Chile) with UPC 0 72840 01751 7 which were sold at King Soopers, City Market, Ralph’s and other grocery stores. No illnesses have been reported.
