Walgreens, Trader Joe’s Sold Salads Linked to E. coli Outbreak

delish-ecoli-recallSalads and sandwich wraps linked to a multistate E. coli outbreak were sold at Walgreens stores in Northern California and Trader Joe’s stores in California, Washington, Oregon and Arizona, according to a retail distribution list compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS).  At least 26 people who ate the salads or sandwich wraps containing the salads, have become ill. Six of them have been hospitalized.

The products were sold at Walgreens under the brand name Delish. Athertone Foods has issued a recall for two Delish brand salads and one sandwich wrap sold at Walgreens. They are: Delish Greek Style Orzo Salad in 6 oz clamshell containers with the UPC 49022 74630;  Delish Asian Style Noodle Salad in 6 oz clamshell containers with the UPC 49022 74628; and 11.3 oz Delish Vegetarian Wraps sold in a cellophane wrapper. These products had “Best By” dates of 9-23-13 through 11-14-13.

Other Delish products under recall for potential E. coli contamination associated with this outbreak were produced by Glass Onion Catering in Richmonsd, Calif.. They are: 12 oz. packages of  Delish Pan Pacific Chop Salad,  13.4 oz. packages of  Delish California Style Grilled Chicken Salad,  9.9 oz. packages of  Delish Uncured Applewood Smoked Ham & Cheese Wrap, 10.5 oz. packages of  Delish Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap, 10.9 oz. packages of Delish Southwestern Chicken Wrap,  11.5 oz. packages of  Delish Greek Brand Low-calorie Grilled Chicken Wrap,  9.9 oz. packages of  Delish White Chicken Club Wrap and 11.2 oz. packages of  Delish Asian Style Chicken Wrap.  Customers who have purchased these products should not eat them as E. coli poisoning can cause serious illness.

Salads and wraps associated with this outbreak were also sold at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, gas stations and other stores. Athertone recalled Classic Greek Salad in 9. oz clamshell containers with the UPC 0083 5794 sold at Trader Joe’s in Northern California and Nevada. Glass Onion is recalling salads sold at Trader Joe’s are Trader Joe’s Field Fresh Chopped Salad with Grilled Chicken sold in 10.7 oz. plastic containers and Trader Joe’s Mexicali Salad with Chili Lime Chicken sold in 11 oz. plastic containers.

Whole Foods is recalling Glass Onion salads it sold at 10 stores. They are Artichoke Wheatberry Salad with PLU numbers 28563300000 and 28563400000 and Southwest SooFoo Salad with PLU numbers 28563700000 and 28563800000.

Other stores and gas stations also sold the recalled products.  Other Glass Onion salads being recalled in association with this outbreak are: 13.4 oz. packages of Atherstone Fine Foods Southwestern Style White Chicken Wrap with Chimichurri Sauce, 10.5 oz. packages of Atherstone Fine Foods Asian Style White Chicken Wrap with Mango Vinaigrette, 9.9 oz. packages of  Atherstone Fine Foods Grilled White Chicken Caesar Wrap with Caesar Dressing, 10.7 oz. packages of  Super Fresh Foods California Grilled Chicken Salad, Low Fat Mendocino Mustard Dressing, 10.7 oz. packages of  Lunch Spot Southwestern Style Chicken Wrap, Chile & Lime Dressing and 9.2 oz. packages of Super Fresh Foods Pan Pacific Chopped Chicken Salad, Ginger Soy Dressing.
