Beef Balls Recall for Listeria in Canada Updated

The recall of Nha Trang Deli Beef Balls for Listeria monocytogenes has been updated to include more codes. The original recall was issued on 11/13/14. No reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product have been received to date, but the illness caused by Listeria monocytogenes can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recalled product is Nha Trang Deli Inc. Beef Balls in 454 gram packages. The code on the product is Best Before Dates from 14 12 06 to 14 12 17, inclusively. The UPC number of the recalled product is 6 20937 00001 2. They were sold in British Columbia at the retail level.

CFIA test results triggered the recall. A food safety investigation is being conducted. If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution if you stored the Beef Balls there. Listeria monocytogenes can survive at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. They include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and next stiffness. Pregnant women may only be mildly ill, but listeriosis can trigger stillbirth, miscarriage, and can cause infection of the newborn. The elderly and those with weakened immune systems are more at risk for serious complications from this type of infection.
