Chia Seed Recall for Salmonella in Canada Updated

The recall of sprouted chia seed powder and chia seeds in Canada for Salmonella contamination has been expanded. There is an outbreak in that country and in the United States associated with these kinds of products. So far, 24 people are sick in Canada and 17 in the U.S. The products are being recalled by Advantage Health Matters and Back 2 the Garden.

You can see the long list of products, including size of containers, codes on the products, and UPC numbers at the CFIA web site. The products are Organic Traditions brand Sprouted Chia Seed Powder, Sprouted Chia & Flax Seed Powder, Ultimate Superfood Trail Mix, Dark Chia Seeds, and Back 2 the Garden Sprouted Chia Seed Powder. The products were sold nationwide. Some of the products may have been sold without a code on the package.

You can see pictures of the product labels at the CFIA web site. If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Discard in a sealed container so animals can’t get at them, or return to the place of purchase for a refund.
