In Canada, Meat Shoppe Cheese Recalled for Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and The Meat Shoppe Inc. are recalling shredded cheeses because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses related to these products have been reported to date.

The recalled products are The Meat Shoppe Shredded Cheddar Cheese in various sizes, with UPC number starting with 200923 and packed on dates from 2014JA08 up to and including 2014MR03. Also recalled is The Meat Shoppe Shredded Mozza Cheese in various sizes, with UPC number starting with 200922 and packed on dates from 2014JA08 up to and including 2014MR03. The products were sold in Alberta.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Discard them or return to the place of purchase for a refund. If you ate these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by Listeria bacteria, until 70 days after you ate it. Those symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, neck stiffness, nausea, and vomiting. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes. Their illness may be mild, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth and miscarriage.
