In Canada, Peppo’s Hommous Recalled for Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Peppo’s Foods are recalling Hommous (hummus) because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.No illnesses have been reported in connection with the consumption of this product, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recalled product is Peppo’s Foods Hommous sold in 1 kg containers. The codes on the product are JL201404-8, JL201404-9, AU201409-7, AU201412-13, AU201422-11, AU201422-12, AU201422-13, AU201422-14, AU201422-15, AU201420-13, SE201404-5, SE201404-6, JL201418-8, JL201418-11, SE201413-6, and SE201413-7. There is no UPC number. This product was sold nationally at the retail level.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard in a doubled bagged container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate this product, you must monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. They include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may have only a mild illness, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or life-threatnien infection of the newborn. If you do get sick, see your doctor immediately.
