In Canada, Tahina Recalled for Possible Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Sesameco are recalling tahina because it may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product.

The recalled product is Al Fakher Tahina in 18 kg (40 pound) packages. The UPC number is 6 27843 00170 6 and the production date is April 8, 2014. The expiration date is August 4, 2016. The product was sold in Quebec by the manufacturer at 4638 boulevard Thimens in St-Laurent.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard it in a closed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund.

Salmonella bacteria do not make food taste, look, or smell spoiled. But the bacteria can cause serious illness. Symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. If you ate this product and have experienced these symptoms, see your doctor immediately.
