Pho Tam restaurant in Boise has been temporarily after health inspectors found food safety violations there during their investigation of five cases of Salmonella poisoning linked to the restaurant.
The illnesses took place between February and mid-March, a spokesperson for Central District Health told KTVB News. A food source of the outbreak has not yet been determined. t
Salmonella is a pathogen that is transmitted vis the fecal-oral route, meaning someone gets sick when they consume food or beverages contaminated with microscopic amounts of fecal matter.
Symptoms, which include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever, usually appear within six to 72 hours of exposure and last up to a week. In some cases, the diarrhea may be so severe that hospitalization is required. These patients can develop a more serious, sometimes fatal infection that spreads from the intestines to the blood stream.
