After a cashier at a Superstore in Nanaimo tested positive for hepatitis A, customers and employees are being offered vaccinations, The Canadian Press is reporting.
Health officials say anyone who purchased and ate raw produce or unwrapped foods on the evenings of Feb. 25, 26 or 27; all day March 1; or the evening of March 4 should get the vaccine as a precaution. A drop-in clinic has been scheduled tomorrow at a recreation center
Hepatitis A is a liver disease that causes illness lasting for a few weeks or as long as several months. Symptoms generally appear two to seven weeks after exposure and include fatigue, nausea, vomiting, fever, dark urine, clay-colored stools and yellow skin or eyes. However, not everyone infected with hepatitis shows symptoms.
