Celestial Seasonings Tea Recalled for Undeclared Barley

The FDA’s Weekly Enforcement Report for the week of February 17, 2016 lists a recall for Celestial Seasonings Herbal Tea produced by Hain Celestial Group in Colorado for conflicting labeling. The packages state the product is “Gluten Free” but it contains barley, which does contain a form of gluten called hordein. Anyone with celiac disease or who is sensitive to gluten could have a serious reaction if they consume this product. The Enforcement Report does not indicate whether or not any reactions have been reported.

RecallThe recalled product is Celestial Seasonings Roastaroma Herbal Tea, with lot code Best Before 20DEC17. It is sold in 6 units per case. The UPC number of the recalled  product is 070734-050138.  The tea was sold in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.

If you purchased this product and are allergic to gluten or have celiac disease, do not eat it. Throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
