Arruda’s Eggnog Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

Local news reports are saying that Arruda’s Dairy Farms of Tiverton, Rhode Island is recalling eggnog for possible Salmonella contamination. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this problem. The production of eggnog has been stopped until the issue is resolved. This Salmonella recall affects certain sizes of the product.

The eggnog is sold in pint, quart, and half gallon clear containers. The products have sell by dates of 2/3/18 and 2/10/18. They were distributed to retail stores and home delivery customers throughout eastern Rhode Island and the Fall River area.

The Rhode Island Department of Health conducted product sampling and found the pathogenic bacteria. If you bought these products, do not consume them, even if you plan to cook with them. Throw the eggnog away in a sealed or double bagged package and put it in a secure garbage can.  You can also take the eggnog back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

It’s a good idea to clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria. Use a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of warm water. Clean the fridge and wipe down other items in the fridge, then rinse everything with clean water and dry it. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning and after handling this product.

The symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning include abdominal pains and cramps, vomiting, diarrhea that may be bloody, and a mild fever. Most people get sick within 12 to 72 hours after exposure to the pathogenic bacteria. If you do get sick, see your doctor and tell her you consumed this recalled product.
