Sargento Expands Recall of Cheese for Possible Listeria

Sargento has expanded its recall of cheeses on February 10, 2017 for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination and is adding sell by dates to previously recalled cheeses. Sargento has ended its relationship with the supplier, Deutsch Kase Haus. That company supplied Sargento with the affected cheese. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

Sargento Cheese Listeria recall

The newly recalled products include Sargento Sliced Colby in 8 ounce packages with UPC number 4610000105 and sell by date 15MAY17F, Sargento Sliced Muenster in 8 ounce packages with UPC number 4610000107 and sell by dates 05MAR17F, 06MAR17F, 16APR17F, 17APR17F and 15APR17F, and Sargento Sliced Pepper Jack in 7.5 ounce packages with UPC number 4610000122 and sell by date 03MAY17B.

Also recalled is Sargento Sliced Tomato & Basil Jack in 6.67 ounce packages with UPC number 4610000279 and sell by date 03MAR17B, Sargento Shredded Reduced Fat Colby-Jack in 8 ounce packages with UPC number 4610041018 and sell by date H07APR17, and Sargento Shredded Chef Blends 4 Cheese Pizzeria in 8 ounce packages with UPC number 4610041105 and sell by date H10APR17. Finally, Sargento Artisan Blends Double Cheddar Shredded Cheese in 8 ounce packages, with UPC number 4610040094 and sell by dates H09JUN17 and H08JUN17 are recalled.

The expanded sell by dates for the previously recalled cheeses are: For Sargento Ultra Thin Sliced Longhorn Colby in 6.84 ounce packages with UPC number 4610000228, an additional date of 02FEB17F, 01MAR17B and 16MAR17F are added. For Sargento Chefs Blend Taco Blend Shredded Cheese in 8 ounce packages with UPC number 4610040002, Sell By dates H11MAY17 and H01JUN17 are added. For Sargento Sliced Pepper jack in 12 ounce packages with UPC number UPC 4610000108, Sell By dates  02MAY17B, 03MAY17B, 11JUN17B are added.

For previously recalled Sargento Sliced Colby-Jack in 12 ounce packages with UPC number UPC 4610000109, Sell By date 01MAY17B is added. For Sargento Off the Block Fine Cut Colby-Jack Shredded Cheese in 8 ounce containers with UPC number 4610040014, Sell By date H06MAY17 is added. For Sargento Chef Blends Nacho & Taco Shredded Cheese in 8 ounce packages with UPC number 4610040041, Sell By dates H04MAY17, S15MAY17 and H01JUN17 are added. Finally, for Sargento Off the Block Fine Cut Cheddar Jack Shredded Cheese in 8 ounce packages with UPC number 4610040076, Sell By dates H07MAY17, H08MAY17 and H09MAY17 are added.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in sealed or double bagged containers or take them back to the store where you bought them for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria, since Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at temperatures below 40°F.

If you ate any of those recalled cheeses, watch yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
