Barcelona Nut Company of Baltimore, Maryland is recalling 239 cases of roasted and salted in shell pistachios because they may be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
These nuts were distributed in Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York, California, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, and Georgia through direct delivery and sold in retail satires. They are Barcelona Nut Company brand, package din red, white and blue window film. The recalled products are sold in 2.75 ounce size with UPC number 030239130001 and expiration date 9/18/2019; 2.25 ounce size, with UPC number UPC 030239149034 and expiration dates 9/17/2019 and 10/9/2019; 1.50 ounce sizes, with UPC number 030239591154 and expiration dates 10/9/2019 and 9/17/2019; 1.25 ounce size with UPC number 030239991060 and expiration date 10/8/2019; and finally, 1 ounce green film plastic package with UPC number 030239510148 and expiration dates 10/4/2019 and 10/10/2019.
Dif you purchased any of these products, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container, or return them to the store where you bought them for a refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product.
The recall was issued after a separate and unaffiliated manufacturer performed a routine test that revealed the presence of the pathogen. Barcelona Nut Company has stopped production and distribution of this lot as they investigate.
The symptoms of a Salmonella infection include fever, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea that may be bloody. Symptoms usually start 6 to 72 hours after someone eats food contaminated with the pathogen. People with chronic illnesses, the elderly, and children usually have a more serious illness.
