Food Recalls for Lack of Inspection and Undeclared Allergens

Two products have been recalled. Ready-to-eat and raw beef and pork products are recalled for lack of inspection, the other salads for undeclared peanuts. No illnesses or adverse reaction reports have been received to date.

The Beautiful Pig of Longview, Washington is recalling ready-to-eat and raw pork and beef products because they were produced, packed, and distributed without benefit of inspection. They were also under U.S. retention when shipped without approval.

These products were produced on dates ranging from June 2, 2017 through July 8, 2018. You can see the long list of recalled products at the USDA web site. These products are all The Beautiful Pig brand, and include Real Pepperoni, Dry Cured Spicy Smoked Capicola, Smoked Hungarian Paprika Salami Dry Cured, and White Truffle and Champagne Salami Dry Cured, among others. These products have the establishment number “EST. 1098” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

They do not have any lot codes or use by dates. They were distributed to retail locations in Oregon and Washington. FSIS received a report from a third party about sales of product that hadn’t been inspected.

The second recall is for Superfood Salads produced by Papa John’s Salads and Produce of Tolleson, Arizona. One hundred forty eight salads are being recalled for undeclared peanuts, one of the major food allergens.

These salads were distributed to stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming from July 9, 2018 to July 10, 2018. You can see the table of recalled products, along with consumer UPC number, where they were sold, and the city and state at the FDA site. The salads were sold from the Deli Service case from July 9 – 11, with UPC number 2541465#### or 2070780#### in which the last 4 digits (####) were the price of the product.

If you bought these products, do not consume them. Throw them away or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.
