Ham, Lard, and Jerky Recalled

Three recalls issued by the USDA in the last few days have affected ham, jerky, and pork lard. No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with these recalls.

The first recall is for Quay Corporation, recalling pork lard that was produced without federal inspection. About 258,121 pounds of the product are recalled.

The shelf stable packaged pork lard products were produced on July 29, 2016 through June 22, 2018. They are: 28-ounce sealed plastic cups containing “MARGARITA MANTECA PORK LARD” with sell by dates ranging from Jan. 29, 2017 through Dec. 22, 2018. The products have the establishment number “EST. 17445” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in Texas.

The second recall is for Land O’Frost ham products that were misbranded. The front of the package is labeled as Black Forest Ham, and the back is labeled as Honey Smoked Turkey Breast.  The recall was issued after a consumer complaint.

These products were produced on April 27, 2018. They are: 1-pound plastic gas-flushed resealable packages containing a single ham labeled “Land O’Frost PREMIUM Old World Style Black Forest Ham” with lot number 8117D and sell by date August 10, 2018. The products have the establishment number “Est. 500K” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to a retail locations in Arizona, California, Oregon, Texas, and Washington.

The third recall is for 13m554 pounds of People’s Sausage elk, bison, and beef jerky products that were produced without an approved voluntary grant of inspection. These shelf stable elk and bison jerky and meat stick products were produced on dates from May 3, 2016 to June 15, 2018.

You can see the long list of recalled products at the USDA web site. They all have the establishment number “EST. 4160” inside the triangle shaped USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail locations in Montana.

If you bought any of these items, don’t eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the store where you bought them for a refund.
