Smoked Fish Products Sold from Four Seasons Marketplace in Canada Recalled for Botulism

The food recall warning in Canada for smoked fish products recalled for possible botulism contamination and sold at Four Seasons Marketplace has been updated. More products have been added to this recall. No illnesses are reported in connection with this problem.

The recalled products were sold at Four Seasons Marketplace at 4099 Erin Mills Parkway in Mississauga, Ontario. All codes sold refrigerated from this retail location are recalled. They include Nanuk Smoked Pacific Salmon – Coho Salmon in 140 gram packages, with UPC number 0 57841 00515 2. Also recalled is BOS Mackerel Fillets – Naturally Smoked, in variable package sizes, with UPC numbers that start with 0204004. BOS Atlantic Salmon – Naturally Smoked in 170 gram packages is recalled, with UPC number 8 33417 00040 6, as is BOS Roasted Atlantic Salmon – Naturally Smoked, in 170 gram packages, with UPC number 8 33417 00040 6.

Food Fest Smoked Steelhead Salmon in 70 gram packages is recalled, with UPC number 0 71217 10323 5, along with Food Fest Danish Style Gravlox – Smoked Steelhead Salmon in 70 gram packages, with UPC number 0 71217 10324 2. Finally, Food Fest Red Sockeye Salmon in 70 gram packages, with UPC number 0 71217 10325 9 is recalled. You can see pictures of product labels at the CFIA web site.

Remember that foods that are contaminated with Clostridium botulinum bacteria and toxin will not look, smell, or taste different, and the texture of the food will not be affected. If you have purchased any of these products, do not eat them, even if you plan to cook them. Discard in a sealed container, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.

And be aware of the symptoms of botulism food poisoning, which can include drooping eyelids, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking, slurred speech, and facial paralysis. Anyone experiencing those symptoms must see a doctor immediately.
