Bonduelle Romaine Salads Recalled in Canada for Possible E. coli

Bonduelle romaine salads are being recalled in Canada for possible E. coli O157:H7. There is one illness associated with these products in Manitoba, but technically no “outbreak” because that requires at least two sick. The salads were sold in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick and may have been sold in other provinces or territories.

The recalled products are all Bonduelle brand. They are Caesar Salad with Chicken and Bacon sold in 174 g packages. The UPC number on the product is 0 77745 27111 8 and the use by date is 10/29/2019. Also recalled is Chef Inspired Salad with Turkey & Ham sold in 220 gram packages. The UPC number is 0 77745 27113 2 with a use by date of 10/31/2019. Cobb Salad with Turkey & Bacon is also recalled. That product is sold in 206 gram packages. The UPC number is 0 77745 27112 5 and the use by date is also 10/31/2019. Finally, Santa Fe Style Salad with Chicken is recalled. It is sold in 177 gram packages. The UPC number is 0 77745 27114 9 and the use by date is 10/31/1029.

This warning was triggered by a recall in the United States. There is an E. coli O157:H7 outbreak in that country that is potentially linked to romaine lettuce. In fact, the CDC has warned all consumers in the U.S. to not eat all romaine lettuce harvested from the Salinas, California growing region. And the Public Health Agency of Canada has issued guidance to Canadians with regard to all types of romaine lettuce and products made with romaine from the Salinas area.

If you purchased any of these Bonduelle romaine salad products, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container, or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
